Bottle Trip Wines
Franchere, Grüner Veltliner, 2021
I am proud to say my first winemaking internship was with Franchere Wine Company, in the Fall of 2020 and again in 2021.
This Grüner Veltliner is grown in an outstanding and dreamy spot, on a moutainside called "Underwood Mountain" on the Washington side of the Columbia River, looking directly at Mt. Hood. The elevation + cooling winds of the Gorge make this location a prime growing spot that few can replicate in this warming climactic period.
Luckily now, I get to have my fill. Lucky you- you now have a 2nd option where you are more likely to find it on demand- thru Bottle Trip Wines.
I'll let the boss explain this one.
"Sited on the knife edge between desert and rainforest, and perched at 1300’ elevation above the Columbia River, Acadia is a windswept, dry farmed, certified organic vineyard planted in an ancient pyroclastic flow on the slopes of extinct Underwood Mountain. Cool climate varieties thrive thanks to the deep volcanic soils and significant diurnal temperature swings.
This is a complete and harmonious wine that hits the pleasure button in a big way. It’s bursting with ripe juicy tangerine on the attack, with hints of peach and apricot, and revved up by the warm spice flavor of cinnamon. Understated characteristics of hay, stones, and green herbs add still more interest. The wine resolves toward tarter flavors on the medium finish, accented by tangerine zest..
Fermented in stainless steel, this is the one wine I make that is both fined and filtered.
