I slowly collected these wines over the past six months, in preparation to bring you a six pack that would be great for spring weather and foods available in the Pacific Northwest.

Every 6-pack comes with an info sheet to help you explore what components may contribute to the flavor and characteristics of the wines, and to help you keep track of what you liked so you can seek out more.

The wines in this 6-pack are (from left to right in the photo):

📍Alad Vyd., Eola-Amity Hills AVA, OR.  👅Dry, salty, minerally. I have never seen a Gewurz in this style before! Love it!
📍Underwood Mountain, Columbia Gorge AVA, WA. Pinot noir, chardonnay, pinot gris.  (Formerly known as Crystal Visions👀). 👅Honeydew melon, vanilla biscuits, pears, and bright minerality.  We don't see Pinot gris in many sparklers and Champagnes these days, but I see a lot more than a decade ago.  Pair with: Pacific Northwest spring veggies (asparagus, peas, morel mushrooms, fava beans, fiddleheads, leeks), risotto, delicate dishes.
📍Vayots Dzor, Armenia.  Made from native Areni grape, from century-old high elevation vineyards.  👅Off-dry, creamy, gentle fruit. Probably too gentle to be a food-wine. Drink it while gardening or Netflix and chill with it. This is an introductory wine to a historic region whose grapevines and wine culture has suffered because of previous Russian occupation and it’s consequences in the early to mid-1900’s.  If you see this grape as a red wine, I highly encourage you to try it.
  • Suzor "The Wild Child" 2021

📍Willamette Valley AVA, OR. Red skin-contact pinot gris, aged in amphora & neutral oak. 👅 Dry. Fruit punch + hint of dry autumn leaves and minerals. Is it a light red wine or an orange wine?  Pinot Gris is more of shapeshifter than a lot of people realize.  Try it at room temp and gradually as it chills in the fridge.
  • Sebestyén, Bikavér (red blend) 2018

    📍Szekszárd, Hungary. Made of native kékfrankos and kadarka, with cab. sauv. and merlot; aged in neutral Hungarian oak.  👅 Off-dry This wine has a pleasant aroma of herbs and minerals.  There was the desire to keep smelling it between sips, almost as if my sub-conscience was asking me to investigate where this came from. Just like when your cat or dog wants to smell your shoes after being gone all day.  Low tannin, smooth, fruit meats eat.  Aged in neutral Hungarian oak. Bikavér (aka Bull’s blood) is the name of the red blends from two specific regions in Hungary that follow rules specific to the style, which includes a minimum amount of 2 of it’s native grapes as listed above.  It only get’s better from here, keep trying it if you see it.
  • Florèz Wines "Free Solo" (red blend), California 2021

    📍Locarnini Vyd., Santa Clary Valley AVA, CA.  👅 Dry. Mulberry, eucalyptus, herbs, antiques.  I have loved this wine for about three years in a row.  This is a field blend, co-ferment of Mourvèdre, Carignan, Zinfandel, and Alicante bouschet, with a little bit of black muscat from a small vineyard that is over 100 years old.  Get it while you can.  Often, the flavor changes drastically from first opening to each hour that passes; and I recommend it best fresh and completely in the night it was opened.  Flavor-wise, it’s a little meaty, savory, and herbal. I would pair this with various beef dishes that have a high aromatic component of wine broth and/or aromatic veggies with fresh herbs: stew, bourgogne, and pot roast, or grilled veggies.
